MISSION

Cal Boxing’s mission is to cultivate a community of discipline, resilience, and personal growth through practicing the art of competitive boxing.  We are dedicated to fostering athletic excellence, mental toughness, and outstanding character in a supportive and inclusive environment.  Our team strives to develop both physical and mental strength, empowering student-athletes to reach their full potential in and out of the ring.  Through our collective hard work, respect, integrity, and commitment, we represent the University of California, Berkeley with pride and integrity, building champions in life as well as in the sport.

VALUES

COMMITMENT

Every member must arrive on time for team practices and meetings, fully ready to participate both mentally and physically.

WORK ETHIC

Develop heart and resilience.  Give maximum intent and effort during training sessions and competitions.  Commit to practice and conditioning requirements.  Every member is expected to push themselves and support their teammates in doing the same.

RESPECT

Treating coaches, teammates, and other participants with respect is fundamental.  Disrespect, disparaging communication, or disruptive behavior are not tolerated.

INTEGRITY

Members must be accountable for their actions in and out of the ring.  This includes owning up to mistakes, following through on commitments, and maintaining discipline.

TEAM-FIRST MENTALITY

The success of the team takes priority over individual achievements. Open communication and collaboration are paramount.  Actions against the team’s shared goals, such as selfish play, are non-negotiable offenses.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE

Endeavor to create a positive, safe learning environment for everyone in Cal Boxing.  Growth-oriented words, actions, and mindset, especially in the face of adversity, are required.  Strengthen our ability to apply feedback.  Negativity, complaining, or disparaging comments are unacceptable, as they damage the team’s morale.
